Black workers face more forced early retirement withdrawals than whites

Evidence

To counter the likelihood that enrolled black families—already facing marriage without a bonus, college debt, and lower salaries—will have to make early withdrawals, I’d also demand that the penalty for early withdrawal of retirement funds be repealed. It is paternalistic and ignores how societal racism continues to cause black workers to be financially disadvantaged compared with their white peers. Whether it’s lack of parental wealth due to historic discrimination, higher taxes, or family members in need, black workers are forced to access retirement accounts more than white workers generally because of necessity. — Dorothy A.
