Black Baptist women deliberately cultivated organizational growth techniques

Evidence

The annual sessions served to disseminate useful knowledge related to the operation of state and local societies. Delegates discussed strategies for broadening their appeal and organizational base. In 1910, for instance, R. T. Frye addressed the audience on “How To Increase the Attendance at Each Meeting” and included the following among her tips for successful work: extending public invitations; discussing current news events; holding missionary rallies; celebrating women’s day; being represented in the national convention; and getting coverage in the press. — Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham, Righteous Discontent, 772
