Bad weather and indecision scuttled the initial Morisco revolt in Granada
Evidence
When open revolt really started at Christmastime, it was something of a damp or rather snow-sodden squib. The whole opening of the campaign was ineptly mishandled by the Morisco leadership in Granada. Allegedly eight thousand Moriscos from the surrounding districts were ready at Christmas 1568 to enter the city (making use of the bridgehead provided by the Albaic´ın) and to sack the Christian quarters (by then already the major part of the central built-up area). At the last moment, Morisco leaders canceled the attack (the weather was indeed very bad, and there had been heavy snowfalls in the mountains). — L. P. Harvey, Muslims in Spain, 1500 to 1614, 1008
