Aufhebung operates as speculative mourning over spectral past shapes
Evidence
Spiritâs bygone moments, which form its habitus, present themselves by the same token as its âexteriorizationsâ (ĂuĂerungen). Out of necessity, spirit projects itself into the outside, an alienation which enables the opposite movement by which each of its moments become interiorized, and this âinteriorizationâ is also seen to be an essential process of the speculative pedagogy. Hence, every one of spiritâs shapes will appear retroactively, as an exteriorization which is reinteriorized, making each a kind of imaginary presence, a spectral mode of being their past selves. In this sense, the Aufhebung can be interpreted as the labour of speculative mourning. â Catherine Malabou, The Future of Hegel, 1013
