Art provocation in 1969 charged admission to view a blank statement wall

Evidence

Positioned at the entrance to 66 Grand Street, Toche charged gallerygoers 50 cents admission to trudge three flights to photographer Gilles Larrain’s space. There they found only a white wall, blank save for a statement declaring the new “Republic of Federated Socialist States of Belgium,” signed by the Government in Exile and four other groups: the Action Committee for the Liberation of Fleming and Walloon Workers, the Collective Committee for Direct Democracy, the Vigilance Committee against Centralized Authoritarian Hierarchy, and the Action Committee for Sexual Liberation Movement of May 4, 1969. — J.
