Anti-Islamic polemics circulated under wrong authors from shared Dominican milieus
Evidence
I have used the name quadruplex reprobatio to describe the work printed in 1550 as the work of John of Wales; Monneret de Villard did not question this attribution which is made on two Berlin manuscripts. There is, however, no_doubt that this work is Spanish in origin. 42a transliterates ‘A’ishah. Miss d’Alverny has pointed out that parts of it are identical with parts of Ramén Martti’s explanatio simboli and she has suggested that Marti may be its author. If he is not the author (and it is not possible to be positive yet) it at least seems highly likely that the two works sprang from the same milieu. — Norman Daniel, Islam and the West, 95
