Anti-Islamic polemicists exaggerated restricted Muslim practices into general turpitude.
Evidence
The reprobatzo cites Bukhari, neglecting the obvious meaning, which is quite harmless, of the text cited, and prefers to follow a glossarius (expositor Alcorani), who must have been very obscure; the same work quotes him again for a most unusual and again unpleasant gloss. This work also attacks Islam rather more justifiably for permitting coitus interruptus or reservatus, but again in doing so erected a restricted permission into a general encouragement. — Norman Daniel, Islam and the West, 787

- XREF: Complicates the vault claim about how the West constructs Islam as its constitutive outside: here a specific textual mechanism — erecting a restricted permission into a general encouragement — that parallels what Anidjar-Aziz-Razack describe at larger scale.
