Anderson’s imagined-communities framework applies to speculative finance and collective imaginings.
Evidence
I analyze the great relevance of this work for the present study by unpacking the increasingly complexified links between imagination, temporality, and materiality. I discuss specifically how Anderson’s innovative focus on the standardizing and synchronizing role of early capitalist commodities can be applied to identify the new, contingent practices of speculative imagination at a time when we are routinely overloaded with digital images but also befuddled about how to imagine a collective future (Bottici 2014). — Aris Komporozos-Athanasiou, Speculative Communities, 55
