An Indian official opposed treating caste discrimination as racial discrimination at the UN
Evidence
Dipankar Gupta, formerly professor of sociology at Jawaharlal Nehru University, was part of the official Indian delegation that in 2007 opposed the Dalit caucus’s demand to treat caste discrimination as being akin to racial discrimination. In an essay in 2007, Gupta argued that “the allegation that caste is a form of racial discrimination is not just an academic misjudgement but has unfortunate policy consequences as well”. — Ambedkar, B R, Annihilation of Caste_ The Annotated…, 456
