Allport’s group-conflict framework foreshadowed modern group-dominance theories.

Evidence

Considerable progress has been made in understanding group conflict and competition since Allport wrote The Nature of Prejudice. Yet the foundation established by Allport remains as important and influential as ever. First, Allport’s discussion of ideologies and social structures that are likely to exacerbate group conflict foreshadowed theories of group dominance (e.g., Bobo, 1999; Jost & Banaji, 1994; Sidanius & Pratto, 1999). Second, Allport maintained a broadly inclusive conception of group conflict and competition, recognizing that they can occur over economic resources, social power, religious values, group status, and social identity. — , Rudman, Laurie A - On the Nature of…, 1512
