Age strongly determines how displaced people cope with forced relocation
Evidence
An old saying goes that you can’t transplant an old tree. Homesickness afl icts the elderly worst of all. They can’t get used to their new living conditions after they grew up with a stable way of life. Worst for them is also life in a foreign space after the difi culties and deprivations of the l ight. Some of them have been prematurely aged by this. Children have it easier, they forget quickly, love change and new experiences, and quickly make new friendships. — Andrew Demshuk, The Lost German East, 919
