Accurate anechoic data plus blind listening tests make psychoacoustic correlations emerge quickly
Evidence
I had access throughout the decades to accurate, comprehensive anechoic measurements as well as controlled double-blind subjective evaluations of many loudspeakers using many listeners. These fulfilled the fundamental needs for productive psychoacoustic research, as described in Figure 1.1. Few people in the world have had this luxury. With these facilities at hand, psychoacoustic linkages and correlations appeared quickly and persuasively. Without them, workers have incomplete or unreliable data. The uncertainties and inconsistencies can lead to experimental errors, and opinions having more influence than they should. — Toole, Floyd E, Sound reproduction- the acoustics and…, 252
