Acceleration cannot increase one’s share of realized possibilities
Evidence
For the very same inventions and methods that permit the accelerated enjoyment of worldly possibilities, and thus the increase of the total sum of realized options in a single life, also multiply the number and diversity of realizable options, in fact exponentially, so that the degree of exhaustion—the ratio of realized to realizable worldly possibilities—continually decreases while the spiral of acceleration is relentlessly driven onward. This is the cultural side of the paradoxical phenomenon of ever scarcer time resources in the face of simultaneous technical acceleration, and it demonstrates with an almost mathematical clarity that acceleration is, at least in the long run, no solution at all to the problem of “missing things.” Indeed, it cannot even soften the problem. — Hartmut Rosa, Social Acceleration, 821
