A Swiss campaign renamed Agassizhorn to Rentyhorn honoring the enslaved man

Evidence

In addition to the petition, Huber did what she calls a “Reparative Intervention” in August 2008 when she chartered a helicopter to travel to the peak known as Agassizhorn, where she placed a plaque with the following declaration: “The mountain you are standing on was named after the Swiss Naturalist Louis Agassiz. Agassiz however was not only a Glaciologist, Genealogist, and Zoologist but also an influential racist and pioneer thinker of apartheid. In 2007, the 200th year anniversary of Agassiz’s birth was commemorated in Switzerland and worldwide. This gave rise to the de-mounting campaign which denies Louis Agassiz this mountain and has re-baptized it Rentyhorn, in honor of the slave Renty and other men and women who have suffered similar fates.” — Tamara Lanier, From These Roots, 258
