A state-level anti-Sharia amendment passed with 70 percent of Oklahoma voters
Evidence
The Oklahoma lawmaker John Bennet went as far as declaring, “Islam is not even a religion; it is a political system that uses a deity to advance its agenda of global conquest.” He also required his Muslim constituents to answer a questionnaire asking if they beat their wives before he would meet with them. Not coincidentally, Oklahoma had a public referendum in 2010 to amend the state constitution to prohibit any reference to Sharia in Oklahoma courts. The “Save Our State Amendment” received the support of 70 percent of Oklahoma voters on election day after ACT for America, the Center for Security Policy, and the American Public Policy Alliance poured at least $60,000 into automated phone calls warning of the imminent threat of Sharia. — Sahar F.
