A shared loudspeaker and headphone target curve solves the Circle of Confusion
Evidence
With a common target, a recording made to sound good through loudspeakers will also sound good through headphones. And when consumers play back the recordings through their loudspeakers and headphones, they too will hear good sound and what was intended. This is what recording mixers refer to as “good translation” (see Section 12.5). The recording will sound similar or translate from loudspeaker to headphone, and from studio to the home. A common target between loudspeakers and headphones goes a long way to solving Audio’s Circle of Confusion. — Toole, Floyd E, Sound reproduction- the acoustics and…, 1789
