A researcher’s perceived political neutrality allows more candid reporting of capital-labor conflict.

Evidence

The Popitz study gave extensive attention to the topic of the struggle between capital and labour, which had been explicitly excluded from the Institute of Social Research study for no convincing reason. No matter how much one wanted to concentrate on the atmosphere in each specific workplace, that atmosphere always at the same time represented a particular form of the clash of interests between labour and capital which was produced by the special situation in each factory. The naturalness and impartiality of the Popitz study, however, was unmistakably the result of the authors’ certainty that they were above any suspicion of having socialist or even remotely left-wing attitudes. — Rolf Wiggershaus, The Frankfurt School, 2100
