A reputation for bribery caused authorities to select a corruptible-proof prosecutor.

Evidence

The reputation that the Hornacheros had of being able to bribe or buy their way out of trouble will have led the authorities to select L´opez Madera to be in charge of action against them, he was somebody tough enough to stand up to them. As we will see, he may have resisted Morisco bids to corrupt him (nothing has come to light to suggest that he really took bribes from them), but he was all the same guilty of abuse of his office. — L.
