A multichannel system need not compromise stereo quality
Evidence
Longstanding stereo tradition has instilled a belief that any audio system of value must start with a pair of full-range floor-standing loudspeakers. However, if one is aiming to get a system that can provide both stereo and multichannel reproduction, and that can entertain multiple listeners with movies, music concert videos, as well as audio recordings, then a different approach is required. A well-designed multichannel home theater can also be a well-designed stereo system; no compromise is necessary. — Toole, Floyd E, Sound reproduction- the acoustics and…, 809
