A Mamluk warrior carried multiple personal weapons for close combat
Evidence
Every Mamluk, as one French soldier reported, had two big musket rifles that are carried by two of his servants, and which he uses only once. Then he uses two pistols that he carries in a belt around his waist. Then eight arrows that he carries in a quiver and which he aims with extreme precision. Then he uses a mace to smash his enemy. Finally, he carries two swords, one in each hand, and catches the reins of his horse between his teeth, and woe to him who cannot evade his blows, the strength of which can easily cut a man in two. We will fight such a sort of men. β Khaled Fahmy, All the Pasha_s Men_ Mehmed Ali, hisβ¦, 631
