A converted Jew’s polemic defended Christian-Jewish unity against anti-Semitic readings of the Quran.
Evidence
The doctrine of the living Ascension of Christ is not unambiguous in Q. but is certainly so understood by many (see Q. 1v.155-7). It was usual to approve at least the Qur’anic condemnation of the Jews, but Pedro de Alfonso, doubtless a converted Jew, stressed the unity of Christians and Jews, who at least agreed that Christ really suffered (loc. cit.). — Norman Daniel, Islam and the West, 2241
