A collective concert series gained mainstream press despite modest attendance.
Evidence
That December, the Jazz Composers Guild staged a follow-up series of concerts at Judson Hall. The opening bill—the Cecil Taylor Unit and Bill Dixon Sextet—sold out the house. The remaining nights, which featured Archie Shepp, Le Sun-Ra Arkestra, and the Roswell Rudd-John Tchicai Quartet (soon to be renamed the New York Art Quartet), drew about half as many, around 150, but garnered reviews in the New York Times. — J.
