A cited Morisco manuscript from 1839 still cannot be located in any Madrid library

Evidence

I and a number of others have, at various times, attempted to trace this work and failed. Professor L´opez-Baralt of the University of Puerto Rico has been particularly active in this connection. I think there is a good measure of agreement among colleagues that Gayangos may have been referring to the manuscript now in the Biblioteca Nacional (Sumario de la relaci´on y ejercicio espiritual). However, there was another library that in Gayangos’s day might have been referred to as the Biblioteca Real: the Biblioteca Real Particular. This, now the library of the Royal Palace—Palacio de Oriente—did in the past have aljamiado manuscripts in its collection, but apparently not now. In any case, the library appears never to have possessed a work by our author. There is a puzzle here that has not yet been solved. — L. P.
