A Berber general conquered Spain during a Visigothic dynastic crisis.
Evidence
In 711, in the midst of a Visigothic dynastic crisis, the Berber general Târiq ibn Ziyâd crossed the straits of Gibraltar to Spain and routed a Visigothic army, killing Rodrigo, last king of the Visigoths. By 720 Muslims had subjected most of the Iberian peninsula to their rule. In the 720s and 730s Arab and Berber forces fought and raided north of the Pyrenees, well into what is now France. — John V.
