A 1500 papal bull granted the Crown two-thirds of tithes from converted Muslims

Evidence

A papal bull of March 22, 1500 (Grima 1993, 217), had just authorized the Catholic Monarchs to keep for their own purposes two-thirds of tithes paid by the New Christians (rather than the two-ninths retention that was standard in Spain in the case of Old Christians). The Crown, of course, up to this point had retained for itself the whole of the old “Moorish” taxes (derechos moriscos), with the exception of the funding for certain local charities—it had taken over the taxation structure that it had found functioning at the time of the conquest, and continued to apply it. — L. P. Harvey, Muslims in Spain, 1500 to 1614, 253
